By now you know that my hubby, Chris, and I have declared 2016 as the year of Robin and Chris. We decided that we were going to make this year all about trying new things and going on as many adventures as possible. The two of us had a lot of fun during the month of February and today I am going to tell you some of the highlights of the past month.
We started off February by going to a chili cook-off. It was held as part of the Newport Winter Festival and we both ended up eating our weight in chili. Seriously. There were 10 competitors and not only did we try all ten, but we went back to at least three booths for seconds – and one booth was so good that we went back for thirds.
We basically rolled ourselves out of the Newport Hyatt (where the event was held) and went into food comas as soon as we got back home. It was awesome.
I had gotten Chris tickets to see comedian Jim Norton for his birthday in January and we went into Boston to see the show about two weeks ago.
The show itself was hilarious, but we (and especially me) ended up getting a two for one deal. The theater (The Wilbur in Boston) is set up more like a comedy club than a traditional theater. It has seats at tables right up front and bar stools (with backs) lined up in small sections set up behind the tables.
The lady who was seated next to me was completely sh*tfaced. I mean like frat party drunk. She was so far gone that I don’t even think she knew where she was. Here are a few of ways she kept us entertained for the night:
1. The show started at 7:30 pm with an opening act that lasted for approximately 20-25 minutes. By 7:36, the lady had already fallen off of her stool….on to my lap. If I hadn’t of been there to break her fall, she would have fallen hard onto the ground.
2. At the theater, there are waitresses that will bring you over-priced beer when they walk around. This lady ordered no less than seven beers and either spilled or kicked over all seven of them.
3. She left to use the bathroom (I assume) during the show and couldn’t find her seat when she came back. She wandered up and down the aisle for a good 3-4 minutes before she finally heard her friend whispering loudly for her.
4. At one point during the show, she pulled out her cell phone. But it wasn’t just any cell phone. It was a vintage Nokia. You know, like the ones we had before smartphones were invented. Like this one:
Anyhow, she pulls out her prehistoric phone about half way through the show and starts playing with it. After a few minutes, she puts the phone up to her ear and slurs (emphasis on the slurring part) “Hello. Ok. Can I call you back?” very loudly and then “hangs up” her phone & puts it away in her bag.
The thing is, THERE WAS NO ONE THERE. I was sitting right next to her and could see the whole thing – there was no one even on the phone. She was just pretending to get a call for whatever reason. Her friend that she was there with shushed her, but that didn’t stop her from answering the phantom calls two more times during the show.
She was loud. Everyone in the section turned to look at her, but she was so far gone that she didn’t even notice. It was frustrating and comical all at the same time. I was patiently waiting for her to do it a forth time because I was seriously going to rip the phone out of her hand and chuck it into the aisle, but sadly she only did it the three times.
And if you doubt for a second that I actually would have ripped the phone out of her hand and thrown it (and most likely gotten myself kicked out of the show as well), you don’t know me at all – because I would have done it without any hesitation.
Despite the major sideshow going on next to us, we had a really good time and it’s something we’re going to remember for a really long time.
The following weekend we headed down the cape, or as people who aren’t from around here call it, Cape Cod. I wanted to visit some of the little shops down there to pick up something “New Englandy” for my cousins in DC who are graciously hosting myself, Chris and the kids for a week in April.
We decided to head to Falmouth because the beach is pretty there & there are a lot of great little shops on Maine Street.
While we were walking down Main Street, we were harassed by a flock of about 10 turkeys who thought they owned the sidewalk….ok, they did own it because I got the heck out of their way when I saw them coming.
I found a great ceramic serving platter with small sand dollars around the edge for my cousin. She’s going to love it.
Before we left the area, we drove by Nobska Light (also in Falmouth) and had lunch at Captain Kidd in Woods Hole (NOM)!
This past weekend we hit the comic book store. There are a few gaps in my X-Men knowledge and I wanted to fill them in. I found what I was looking for & picked up a few comics to put in the kids Easter baskets!
