If there’s one question that I get asked more than any other, it’s “How did you meet your husband, Chris”?
Let me give you a little backstory first, though.
I had my second son on August 16, 2007 and he was delivered by c-section. I had several complications from the surgery and thanks to a visiting nurse who came to my house daily and a second surgical procedure, I was finally back to my old self about thirteen weeks after I had my son. Thirteen weeks!! It was a very long recovery and my ex-husband was such a douche anything but supportive and helpful during the time I was out of commission. Within a week or two of getting back on my feet, my husband left. Like as in moved out. We both mutually agreed that it wasn’t working out with us and it was for the best that we each go our seperate ways. That was in November of 2007.
The thing is, it was over with my ex-husband long before November of 2007. In fact, I’d probably venture to say it was over before I ever got pregnant with my second son, but we were both in denial – or maybe we were just too comfortable in our arrangement and it took our second son being born to realize it wasn’t meant to be.
So, I found myself as a single mom to a toddler and an infant. I had decided to stay in my home for two reasons. 1. I could afford it and 2. because I thought it was better for the kids (well, really just my older son, who was three at the time). Once I figured out my finances and got myself a job in which I could work from home, I had decided that it was time to start dating again.
And that’s exactly what I did. That was February of 2008.
A good friend of mine (who was single at the time, too) and I had talked about online dating and we both decided to place an ad. On Craigslist. Yes, you read that correctly – I said Craigslist. I was also planning on looking into one of the “reputable” online dating sites, but I put the ad out on Craigslist to try and guage what was out there in general. My expectations were low….actually, scratch that – I had NO expectations, but to my surprise, I got an email back from this guy Chris with a simple “Hi. How are you?”. Out of about 25 or 30 responses, he was the only one that was not looking to hook up that night in his response, so I figured “What the hell, I’ll email this guy back”.
Turned out he lived in the next town over from me and we emailed back and forth for a little over a week before we made plans to meet. The rest is history. Sure we’ve had some ups and downs during the time we’ve been together, but he is one in a million….and all my happiness is because of Craigslist. I know that site gets a bad rap, but I have no complaints about the way things worked out.
Now, if any of you want to share how you met your spouces, I’d love to hear it.
